The Shooting Stars
& Heart to Wild Heart
HERD
Dewey (left) and Toby are two peas in a pod. So similar and usually together trying to make someone laugh. They are goofy characters with great big hearts.
Toby is a 10 year old part draft gelding with unknown parentage. He grew up living at a private boarding school full of teens, and those are his favorite people. He loves people and lives to make them laugh and, when allowed, to give his famous Toby kisses!
Dewey is a 6 year BLM mustang gelding, full of personality and character. He was gathered from the wild as a baby from the Cedar Mountain herd management area in Utah. He has been with us most of his life. He loves people and loves to help people center and work with their energies.
Atlas is an approximately 7 year old BLM mustang gelding from Triple B herd management area in eastern Nevada. He came in 2018 to be gentled, trained and homed. However, someone had other plans because he really wanted to stay to teach people about patience, trust and many aspects to the gentling of wild horses and training of all horses. He is sometimes shy and prefers just a few close friends instead of automatically loving everyone. That goes for horses and humans. Those who have taken the time to become his friend have all said it was worth it! One of his favorite activities with humans is to just stand together and decompress until joy and curiosity take over.
Kailani (Hawaiin for sea and sky) is a 6 year old BLM mustang mare from the Modoc National Forest in northern California, the Devils Garden herd. She is a sweet, sweet girl and the Queen of our HERD. Kailani has overcome a ton of obstacles, fears, grudges and injuries since coming to us. She is strong willed and determined, a high achiever and overcomer. She offers inspiration and shared strength, especially for women and children. She has overcome an overactive nervous system so much that her confirmation (body shape) has changed drastically since learning to relax consistently. She loves to help people create and live new stories, and to be together with love and compassion. Did I mention she is a SWEET mare?
Foxglove (aka Foxy or Foxy Foxglove) is THE baby around here. She is 2 years old now and has been here since she was about 4 months old. She is a BLM burro from Black Mountain herd management area near Kingman and Oatman, Arizona. Foxy loves to be the center of attention. In fact, she often demands it... and is honestly hard to resist. She LOVES hugs, walks, learning and anything to be the center of attention. And when she is the center of your attention, you are the center of hers. She is sassy and animated and loves humans. She is a sweet cutey.
Miss Mocha is an approximately 15 year old jenny wild burro. She has been domesticated now, but loves to express her wildness when she has the chance. She is very opinionated and likes to observe from the sidelines UNTIL she decides to do something, and then communicates her desires very clearly. She reminds us not to count out the quiet observer; she'll participate 110% when she's ready and decides to. Mocha spent most of her life wild in the Cibola-Trigo herd management area near Yuma, Arizona.
And here are some of our HERD members that came for a short time to prepare for a new life and go to their own forever homes...
Miss Mocha gave birth to Almond Roca here, then he found his home at weaning.
Cienna is now Solstice, a Nevada mustang mare who was here for rehabilitation, retraining & rehoming.
Maverick was my first TIP horse. He was mistreated by several individuals before finding his way back for rehabilitation, which he continues with his current owner, living on a large acreage with Solstice. It's nice to keep in touch!
Galaxy & I at Washoe Lake, Nevada on our way to his home on the Oregon Coast. He's an amazing gelding from Little Owyhee herd in Nevada. Sweet, smart, willing and LOVES kids.
Churro the Burro! My first little burrito to ever gentle. Churro is the one who ended my horse-only bias. He expanded our love and passion to include the wild burros too, forever changing our lives.
Silver was a very reactive, sensitive wild mustang who required tinier tiny steps in his learning that happened on his own time. He is now a lesson horse for people of all ages and abilities.
MayFlower was born at Shooting Stars. She and her mother, Flora, get to live on a beautiful ranch together in Colorado near Churro and his HERD.
Sunshine (now Sunny) was one of my favorite Sale Authority mustangs to help! She had been returned 3 times, found to be "dangerous". She got to stay in the White Mountains of Arizona to be developed into a multi-generational family, camping and hunting horse. She is loved & valued.
And... just because they're so heartwarming...

In a Facebook post with this photo Steve said, "I turned down a good offer to buy Silver yesterday. A 6 year old girl told me she would give me "all of my daddy's money". I asked her how much money her daddy had. "A lot" she said. Sorry, he's not for sale."
